In spite of what you may have heard, more often than not its the angels that you’ll find in the details – little grace notes that we humans can’t help adding in the margins, some touch that says, “I was here.”
Manhole covers, service panels, whatever you call them, are excellent examples of this. An integral part of modern infrastructure, I have been amazed, amused and inspired by the creative expression to be found underfoot all over the world.
Underfoot Mandalas is my attempt to capture this. The current designs feature covers from London, New York City and Berkeley but I’ll be branching further afield as I introduce new designs.
